More than 867,000 private health insurances in 2021

Active individual Health policies in 2021 exceeded 862,000, an increase of 4% compared to the previous year.

And the number of canceled contracts saw a significant decrease of 9%.

The combined effect of the two previous elements was, respectively, the reduction of the voidability of the contracts in question by two percentage points in 2021 compared to 2020, i.e. reaching 13%

This results from the new survey of the Association of Insurance Companies of Greece for the Health Insurance statistics 2021.

As far as group contracts are concerned, the trend of group health contracts was similar to that of individual contracts, the number of which reached 5,706 in 2021, marking a 10% increase compared to 2020.

At the same time, the number of cancellations reached 505, i.e. reduced by 6% compared to the previous year. A corresponding result from the combination of these two elements was the further reduction of the voidability of the contracts in question by 1 percentage point in 2021 compared to the previous year, i.e. reaching 9%.

In proportion to the active contracts, an increase was also noted in the number of total (individual and group insurances, mainly insured and covered / dependent members) declared active insured in 2021.

In particular, the declared active on 31/12/2021 individual health insurance policyholders approached 1.1 million, marking an increase of 6% and group insurance policyholders approached 1.3 million, which is equal to an increase of 7% compared to 2020.

From the percentage distribution of the sum of active insureds of both lines of work (individual and group), it follows that group insurances have a greater penetration in Greek society (54% of the sum of active insureds) than individual insurances (46% of the total) .
