Roberts, in a brief order, issued a temporary stay of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia’s decision pending further action either by himself or the full court.
Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday temporarily blocked the House Ways and Means Committee from obtaining years of former President Donald Trump’s tax records, two days before a supposed delivery date.
Roberts, in a brief order, issued a temporary stay of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia’s decision pending further action either by himself or the full court.
He also ordered the Ways and Means Committee to respond to Trump’s emergency request for the Supreme Court to intervene in the long-running dispute over his tax records by Nov. 10.
It is recalled that earlier today, former US President Donald Trump asked the US Supreme Court to intervene in his fight to prevent a House Committee from gaining access to his tax returns, citing political motivations.
Trump filed an emergency request to stay a lower court ruling against the Republican former president that upheld a request by the Democratic-dominated House Media and Resources Committee to obtain the tax records.
The lower court ruling says the commission’s access to Trump’s tax returns is part of its legislative work.
