The family did not have cash, while the bank card did not “pass” through the POS – The policeman’s reaction
Unbelievable incident at a gas station in Volos: A family, who had gone to the business to put gas in the car, was “hostage” by the station owner, when the card with which they tried to pay the price did not go through the POS machine , because he had been discharged. A policeman, called by the gas station owner to…arrest the family, paid the price, ending the family adventure.
Father, mother and their two young daughters aged 4.5 and 8.5 respectively had gone to the supermarket for the week’s shopping. On their way home, they stopped at a gas station to fill up. They put 20 euros worth of petrol in the tank, before the mother got out of the car to go inside the petrol station and pay by card.
The card was not accepted by the machine. “It was the same card I had used at the supermarket without a problem. But it seems that because I was holding her and she was leaning on the mobile phone, she was discharged”, the woman describes, speaking to TAHYDROMOS.
He suggested that the station employee leave her police ID, that the family return home and bring her the 20 euros. The employee informed the gas station owner, who allegedly had knowledge of the incident through closed-circuit cameras, which he has installed in his business. “Let them stay where they are. I see them from the cameras. Call the police,” the instructions he allegedly gave to his employee.
In fact, according to the mother of the two small children, she could be heard calling them “thieves” on the other end of the line through the handset.
Police were called
The woman tried in vain to explain that she has money and that she will bring it. With the lot, she left the gas station on foot, in order to go to her house, get money and return.
In the meantime, the employee, following her employer’s orders, called the police. A patrol car crew arrived at the scene with two police officers and saw the father with the two little girls waiting in the car.
The owner of the gas station allegedly kept giving orders over the phone calling the police to arrest the family! The one policeman tried in vain to calm the spirits. Even when he explained that he can’t arrest them because no charges have been filed, the gas station owner appeared willing to do so.
The policeman paid
“You’re not in a good place, I’m going to arrest a family with small children,” the policeman reportedly said, who took out a 20 euro bill on the spot, gave it to the employee and ended the… “hostage” of the family of four.
The father asked for the policeman’s name in order to return the money. He did not accept it. “I’m begging you. That’s what the police are for, to help the citizens,” said the policeman, urging the man, who insisted on paying him, to allocate the amount to someone in need.
He is a police officer in a patrol car from the afternoon shift yesterday, who does not wish to be named. He did what he thought was right and left.
“We thank him and give him our word”
“We give him our word as a family that we will do what he asked of us. We will give the money to someone in need”, the mother’s “thank you”, with a voice broken by emotion, to the policeman of AT. Volos, who got them out of a difficult position.
