The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived at the Synod Palace, accompanied by the Minister of Education and Religions Mr. Niki Kerameos, in order to take part in the extraordinary meeting of the Permanent Holy Synod.

The Prime Minister was welcomed by the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, Most Theophile Bishop of Oreon Mr. Filotheos, at the entrance of the courtyard of the Petraki Monastery. Then, at the entrance of the Monastery, the abbot of the Monastery, Metropolitan Iakovos of Thavmakos. The Prime Minister was also accompanied by the Government Spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis entered the Katholikon of the Holy Monastery of Asomaton Petraki, worshiped and at the entrance of the Synodal Palace he was received by His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece, Mr. Jerome.

Then, they entered and the Prime Minister met with the synods for a treat at the reception. Welcoming Mr. Mitsotakis to the meeting room of the Hierarchy, the Archbishop stressed: “We welcome you to have a fruitful cooperation on Church-State issues and handed him the Church medal for the 200 years since the beginning of the Greek Revolution.”

Afterwards, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education discussed with the Synodal Archbishops and His Beatitude. Regarding the relations between the state and the church, the two sides stressed that there should always be cooperation within the framework of distinct roles.

Shortly after one o’clock in the afternoon, the meeting between the Prime Minister and the Synodal Hierarchs ended, while before his departure, the Prime Minister took a commemorative photo with the members of the Permanent Holy Synod.
