General meeting in Civil Protection for the arrival of bad weather EVA

Activation of 112 to send warning messages to residents, depending on the course and evolution of the phenomena – Strong recommendation to citizens to avoid moving during the occurrence of the phenomena

With the entire Civil Protection mechanism on full alert and on high alert, a new meeting was held today under the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianidis, in view of the intense bad weather “EVA” which is expected to hit gradually, from tomorrow morning, much of the country.

In the context of the meeting, it was decided to activate 112 to send warning messages to residents, depending on the course and evolution of the phenomena.

Citizens are strongly advised to be especially careful and follow the following basic instructions:

– Avoid any unnecessary movement during severe weather and secure your doors and windows tightly, always keeping in mind in case of floods to move to the highest points of the house.

– Do not for any reason cross rivers, streams or flooded roads, on foot or by vehicle, if you find yourself in this position. For no reason.

It is recalled that according to the Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena issued yesterday, Thursday 03 November 2022, from Saturday morning (11-05-2022) until the evening hours of Sunday (11-06-2022) dangerous conditions will occur in places weather phenomena that will have as their main characteristics the high levels of rainlocally the high speeds and the high frequency of lightning.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Evangelos Tournas, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Stelios Petsas, the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Lefteris Oikonomou, Regional Governors and Deputy Regional Governors responsible for Civil Protection issues from the 13 Regions of the country, as well as representatives of Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

The Deputy Chief of the Fire Brigade, Lieutenant General Ioannis Petroutsos, the Lieutenant General of the Hellenic Police, Eleftherios Garilas, representatives of the Greek National Police, the General Director of Coordination of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, Phoebus Theodorou, representatives of all the concessionaires of the National Road Network management, also took part. as well as DEDDIE.

The Director of the National Meteorological Service (NMS), Theodoros Kolidas, thoroughly informed the political leadership of the Ministry and all participants about the course of the bad weather, as well as about the 12-hourly update of the Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena from the National Meteorological Service , available on the website www.emy.gr.

The Minister Mr. Stylianidis underlined that the “key” to avoiding problems caused by bad weather is the effective coordination of all relevant agencies and asked all participants to put all their forces to the maximum degree of readiness and vigilance to deal with any emergency .

More detail:

On Saturday (05-11-2022) the strong and in places dangerous weather phenomena will affect:

a) from the morning the northern Ionian and Epirus,

b) from noon the southern Ionian, the western Sterea and the western Peloponnese,

c) from the evening the phenomena will extend to eastern Peloponnese, central Sterea, eastern Thessaly, western and central Macedonia and,

d) during the night the eastern Sterea (including Attica), all of Thessaly and Evia.

Attica will be affected intermittently from the evening hours of Saturday (05-11-2022) until noon on Sunday (06-11-2022).

On Sunday (06-11-2022) heavy rains and storms will occur:

a) until noon in the Ionian Sea,

b) until the afternoon on the mainland (except Thrace),

c) from the morning hours in the Cyclades, Crete and the Sporades, and

d) from noon in the Dodecanese

It is noted that the phenomena will be particularly intense in places in western and central Macedonia, eastern Thessaly and the Sporades.
