However, the teams were never informed that the headlights would not be turned on to save energy

With… flashlights from their mobile phones, the players and the approximately 70 fans were forced to leave the stadium of the Municipality of Sykeon, as the match that was scheduled not only never took place, but also the floodlights of the stadium were never turned on to… save energy.

Football players of the amateur football teams of Pefko of Thessaloniki and Elpida of Sykeon left the field with their cell phone flashlights on.

As reported by ERT, the game was scheduled to be played in the evening by EPS Macedonia. Except that the Municipality of Sykeon, as mentioned by the mayor D. Apatsidis, had informed EPS that for reasons of energy saving, the floodlights will not be on at night.

However, the teams were never informed and thus the match never started.

According to the Municipality’s information, the matches can only take place in daylight, while for training sessions on weekdays, half the floodlights will be lit.

Due to the energy saving, which has been set for the municipalities at 10%, the planning of matches is now done in daylight while the trainings in the stadiums are only with half floodlights.
