The journalist, George Tragas, ended up with a coronavirus at the age of 72, around 03:00 in the early hours of Tuesday after a long battle.
It is recalled that the journalist was hospitalized in the ICU of “Sotiria” hospital, where he was admitted, as his health condition deteriorated.
The journalist refused to be vaccinated and even founded the “Free Citizens” movement.
On November 30, George Tragas, who has underlying diseases, announced in a post that he had been diagnosed with coronavirus. “I dance tango with COVID-19,” he said, beginning his post.
Who was it
He was born on July 30, 1949, in Metaxourgeio. His father worked as a gynecologist.[6] He started writing articles locally at an early age and worked for the magazine Images of Eleni Vlachou, while he continued to work on the sports pages of Mesimvrini covering football matches.[7] A key milestone in his career was the newspaper Vradyni, in which he worked for a number of years. He was also a police reporter for a number of years, before engaging in political reporting.[8] Apart from being a journalist, he has also been the publisher of the publications “Chora”, “Crash” and “Anexartisia”.[9]
On television he presented on the old SKAI (now Alpha) the shows Without Anesthetic[10] and Viva,[11] which was transferred to ANT1,[12] to the new SKAI the Sniper[13] and other shows. He has also appeared on mainstream news bulletins of various television stations (mainly Alter, Extra Channel, Action 24, New Epsilon TV and the old Epsilon TV (now Open Beyond)), as a political commentator.
Tragas became known in an incident that occurred in 1988, when he was a free press correspondent at Herfield Hospital in London, reporting on the treatment of Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou. In his responses, he presented Papandreou’s health condition as much worse than the official medical announcements of the hospital and the correspondents of the other newspapers. He also sharply commented on the prime minister’s love affair with flight attendant Dimitra Liani. This created tensions in the environment of the former prime minister, with the result that his special secretary, Michalis Ziagas, first physically attacked Tragas with fists and then chased him in the gardens of the hospital.[14]
On the radio he maintains a show on self-managed Greece 94.3 while at the same time he set up, together with the Crash magazine he publishes, the internet station Crash Radio.[15] He used to have a show on Parapolitika 90.1 FM and for seven years, on Real FM 97.8. His show on Crash Radio is also televised through the regional station Dion TV in Central Macedonia, while previously, the same show was broadcast on Euro TV (also in Central Macedonia),[16] while it was broadcast on other regional channels of Central Macedonia, on Vergina TV[17] and in the New Epsilon of Thessaloniki.[18]
