EODY: 85 confirmed cases of monkeypox – All men with a median age of 37 years

Although the number of new cases has decreased significantly, cases are still being diagnosed without reporting travel abroad.

The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox, from the start of registration to 10 November, is 85 – all male, median age: 37 years (16-62), of whom 24 reported travel abroad within the year incubation of the disease (28%)-, according to EODY.

He notes that although the number of new cases has decreased significantly, cases are still being diagnosed without reporting travel abroad.

Monkeypox is a viral infection first recognized in 1958. Since then, it has been occurring in tropical areas of West and Central Africa. It is transmitted through contact with wild animals and from human to human through close physical contact.

In May 2022, an increased number of monkeypox cases were recorded in non-endemic countries. In total, in Europe, until November 8, 2022, 25,375 cases of the disease were recorded in 45 different countries.
