The development of cooperation between the two bodies is sought, through the promotion of complaints to the Greek Police regarding the production and distribution of illegal content (images and videos) of child sexual abuse to the Greek Open Line of Complaints (Safeline.gr).
A memorandum of cooperation was signed today in the Bakoyannis Hall of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, between the Hellenic Police and the Technology and Research Foundation (ITE), to prevent and combat the trafficking of child sexual abuse content online. The memorandum was co-signed by the head of the Hellenic Police, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Koumas and the scientific manager of the Hellenic Safe Internet Center of the ITE, Paraskevi Fragkopoulou.
In particular, with the memorandum, the development of cooperation between the two bodies is sought, through the promotion of complaints to the Hellenic Open Line of Complaints (Safeline.gr) to the Hellenic Police regarding the production and distribution of illegal content (images and videos) of child sexual abuse or anything related to the display of the sexual dignity of minors via the Internet and e-mail addresses, which have been verified to contain material of child sexual abuse.
At the same time, the two-way exchange of statistical data and published reports between the bodies, which concern the subject of the memorandum, is sought.
The leader of ELAS emphasized that the signing of the memorandum of cooperation with I.T.E. is yet another practical implementation of the long-term commitment of the Greek Police to prevent and combat all forms of crime, especially those committed against minors.
For her part, Mrs. Fragkopoulou noted that “since 2003, when the Safeline.gr line has been operating, it has been receiving complaints from citizens about illegal content or illegal activity that takes place on the internet. For the most effective processing of these complaints, our cooperation with the Greek Police plays a decisive role, in which we promote the complaints that are verified by our specialized analysts as illegal. We hope that this cooperation will become closer and closer with the aim of defending and protecting minor internet users who unfortunately face thousands of challenges every day”.
