Opinion – Full Glass: Kona brings beer with mango and only 80 calories

by

With summer just around the corner, some breweries are starting to offer more refreshing suggestions, many with the addition of tropical fruits.

A novelty that has just landed here comes from Hawaiian Kona, a blond ale with mango addition, offered in an economical 269 ml can. In addition to being refreshing and aromatic, the new label features low bitterness, with 18 IBU (a scale that reaches 120).

With 4.2% alcohol content, the beer brings another characteristic that should attract “fit” brewers, just 80 calories — Pilsen beers usually have between 130 and 150 calories in 350 ml cans.

“Kona Blond Ale comes with the objective of being a tasty option for those looking to balance calories, but without giving up the taste of a good craft beer”, says Vanessa Nastari, Marketing Manager of Kona in Brazil.

To the delight of the locals, the beer physically arrives there first. But it can be found online on the Empório da Cerveja website (individual, for R$ 5.99, or the pack with eight cans, for R$ 47.92) or even on the Zé Delivery website.

This is the second label available from the brewery around here, the other is the equally refreshing Big Wave, a golden ale with 4.4% alcohol —we’ve also had the American lager Long Board, which came out of the Brazilian catalogue.

Created in 1994, Kona was born to be the beer of its own restaurant, but it grew quickly. The brewery is part of the portfolio of ZX Ventures, accelerator of the Ambev group.
