Digital Job Card: Professionals suggest improvements

by

Their concerns for its use digital card express professional associations, especially of the Branches that employ workers with flexible hours, pointing out that the horizontal application of the measure will cause malfunctions in a number of professions.

Herca, the Hellenic Association of Event Equipment Rental Companies, whose members belong to a special category of companies with flexible employment due to the nature of the object, is able to submit improvement proposals to the relevant government bodies in order to prevent malfunctions and problems before they occur. “If there are no specific regulations for the use of it per Branch and per activity and it is applied horizontally, it is certain that many problems will arise” says George Voudantas, president of Herca. “The time has come to create working groups made up of government agencies, associations and labor unions with the aim of solving various pathologies that have been plaguing various professional branches like ours for a long time” he notes.

The association’s companies are calling for a holistic approach to the implementation of the digital card, which they see as an opportunity to address several issues. “Our profession is evolving every day, technology is advancing rapidly and we still haven’t solved key issues. The digital card can become an occasion to settle chronic labor issues and, in cooperation with the workers, not to let this opportunity be lost,” says Mr. Voudantas.

Exterior model

One of Herca’s proposals, perhaps the most important, is the implementation of models used in corresponding Branches abroad, such as France and other European countries, where although the vast majority of employees are employed as freelancers with a service invoice, at the same time there are and specialized collective labor agreements for the field of culture and entertainment, which give the employee the possibility to be employed for a certain number of hours per week. “For example, in France, someone can work up to 48 hours per week, choosing their own distribution per day and in consultation with the respective company, without the limitation of eight hours per day. Thus, the employee can work more hours per day and fewer days per week” according to the president of Herca.

“The nature of our work is such that many times a continuous eight hours cannot be enough to provide quality technical services. Herca has specific proposals to address all these issues but we believe that any change in working conditions should be done in consultation with our employees.

For us, companies and employees, we are members of the same team and not rivals” concludes Mr. Boudantas.
