With the good weather as an ally, a large number of people flooded the historic site of the Polytechnic to commemorate the anniversary of the student uprising.
Citizens of all ages arrived at the courtyard of the Polytechnic with a red carnation in hand, while the oldest – people who lived through the tragic events of November 17, 1973 – could not hide their emotion.
The tank-hit door and the memorial to the students who lost their lives are already covered in carnations and wreaths.

“It is the history of our country. The children must come to see up close, to learn,” Constantina, who came with her 12-year-old son, Marino, to the Polytechnic told APE-MPE with emotion.

“Young people must learn, we elders must not forget that some children gave their lives to defend the Republic,” noted a father who came with his five-year-old daughter.
Myrto, a primary school student, had spoken in her class with her classmates about the Polytechnic. “We said we will not allow this to happen again,” he said.
The doors of the Polytechnic were closed at 13:00. The commemoration of the 49th anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising will culminate with the customary march to the American embassy.
