Two newborns, just a few days old, were transported and treated with corona virus at the University Hospital in Heraklion, while, according to information, their mothers have not been vaccinated.
The two babies, 6 and 23 days old, have been admitted to the Neonatal Unit of the Pediatric Clinic and according to what the commander of PAGNI, George Chalkiadakis, told ERT Heraklion, their condition is good and they are being treated for precautionary reasons.
What are the symptoms of the newborns?
As he mentioned, the two newborns showed mild symptoms and specifically rhinitis one and a slight cough the other and as their mothers are positive for the coronavirus their parents’ reaction was immediate. The two infants underwent diagnostic tests that came out positive and it was decided that they should be hospitalized mainly to be placed under close supervision by doctors. However, according to the hospital commander, their health condition is good and in a few days they are expected to return to their homes and to their parents’ arms.
Mothers are in quarantine
According to Mr. Chalkiadakis, both mothers had not been vaccinated, were infected with the virus and remain under house arrest. He also stressed the need to vaccinate pregnant women who are more susceptible to coronavirus in order to prevent infections and serious illnesses during pregnancy, and even the transmission of the virus to newborns, recalling that the lives of pregnant women who became ill during pregnancy have already been lost.
