Serious damage was caused at the PPC substation in the area of Limnopoula, due to the bad weather, as a result of which the sports facilities were also plunged into darkness, at a time when dozens of children and athletes were in the training areas at the gym and the swimming pool.
The coaches of all clubs, the people of the Management Committee and employees of PEAKI, rushed to help immediately to evacuate the area.
Children, athletes and many parents who were in the premises at the time, were removed safely and without any problems.
According to the Management Committee of PEAKI, the facilities will remain closed for the time being.
Work is starting immediately to repair the damage as quickly as possible, the extent of which will be assessed in the morning. For this reason, it is known that on Wednesday morning the Swimming Pool will remain closed.
Several areas of the island are without electricity while the DEDDIE crews are making efforts to restore the damage.
