The photographer presents the ibida in Venezuela, ptinolaryngids in Indonesia, penguins in Antarctica and other birds from six continents
Birds are the real protagonists in the new book by the American National Geographic photographer, Tim Layman “Bird Planet. A Photographic Journey”.
The photographer presents the ibida in Venezuela, ptinolorhynchids in Indonesia, penguins in Antarctica and other birds from six continents.
A biologist and explorer, as well as a brilliant image maker, Tim Layman has spent thousands of hours over more than 30 years perched in treetops, often in remote jungles, hoping that careful planning and good luck will align for the perfect photo, stated in the book summary.
“Bird Planet” takes the reader on a journey into the world of birds. His great achievement – he photographed every known species of bird of paradise while spending 18 months in New Guinea over eight years – is a separate chapter in the book, as are his visits to the penguins.
With an incredible knowledge of both nature and photography, Layman has created the perfect guide to the bird kingdom, it is noted.
In his book published by Harry N. Abrams, Tim Layman has included anecdotal stories that reflect the time, effort and research it takes to photograph, such as when he landed from a helicopter in the uninhabited Foya Mountains of New Guinea with food and provisions for three weeks.
