Heraklion: Vitriol, the caustic liquid that the 38-year-old threw at her 36-year-old ex-wife

Chemical analysis of the caustic shows a mixture of substances with a very low pH, which can burn… everything

Liquid cleaner she claimed she threw at her 36-year-old ex-partner, the 38-year-old from Heraklionvitriol “extracted” the chemical analysis of the brown caustic substance that the man received in the face.

Cretalive’s information on the result of the chemical analysis states that after testing the sample of the brownish liquid substance from the glass jar, it was found to contain an extremely high concentration of sulfate anions, which is consistent with the sample being a concentrated aqueous solution. sulfuric acid.

The fact that the sample of the liquid substance was brown in color, combined with the fact that sulfuric acid solutions are colorless, indicates its possible mixing with some other liquid.

At the same time, the damage to the victim’s jeans and the detection of extremely high concentrations of sulfate anions in the aqueous extracts “show” a concentrated solution of sulfuric acid.

As it turns out, it is the well-known vitriol, a highly corrosive and caustic acid, as well as an oxidizing agent at high concentrations and high temperatures. As noted, the substance in question can cause serious damage to health, as it seems to have caused to the 36-year-old, who is still hospitalized, with a fever, with serious problems and at risk of losing his organs.

Vitriol, which in contact with the skin, acts as an irritant and corrosive, easily penetrates it and causes burns. It is also catastrophically dangerous after swallowing or inhaling its vapors, which can cause tissue damage in the nasal cavity, mouth and respiratory system.

They cause irritation, burns, coughing, reduced breathing capacity and, in severe exposures, death. As for the effects on the eyes, they cause inflammation, redness, tears, itching or even blisters.

It should be noted, however, that vitriol is not commercially available, while by law, products containing sulfuric acid with a content of more than 15% are subject to restrictions on availability to the general public, as they can be used to make even improvised explosives!
