The bad weather “Ariel” has caused many and big problems in central and northern Greece with the roads turning into rivers in Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Pierria while in Larissa the water even got inside the houses.

In Thessaloniki, tree trunks and branches fell on cars due to the strong wind, which carried sheet metal and objects from the balconies, fortunately without any injuries.

Many parts of the city are full of garbage, which had become mountains in the bins due to the recent mobilizations.

According to halkidikinews.gr, rockslides also caused problems early in the morning on the provincial road network of Sithonia. Due to the heavy rains, rocks were detached from the slopes of the road and machines of the Region removed the transported materials.

In Ierissos, a tree was uprooted by the strong winds and the intervention of the Fire Service was needed to remove it.

Larissa: Houses and lands were flooded in Paleopyrgos and Koulouras

Problems due to the bad weather were also caused in Larissa. In particular, the heavy rainfall caused problems on the coastal front of the municipality of Tempo in the Pinios River Delta.

Lands and houses located on the coasts of Kouloura and Paleopyrgos were flooded due to the large volumes of water that gathered in the area. The competent authorities are trying to relieve the waters towards the sea by opening passageways at the “Karavoma” location.

The specific problem, as reported by residents of the area, is observed every time there are heavy rains, who request that anti-flooding projects be carried out in the area to avoid similar situations.

At the same time, the section of the Athens-Corinth National Road, from Kineta to Megara, in Kakia Skala, upstream to Athens, remains closed due to falling rocks from the heavy rainfall. The traffic jam and the inconvenience for the drivers are enormous, while the traffic police have proceeded to divert the traffic. It remains unknown when the road will be open to traffic, while traffic is normal on the exit to Corinth.
