Serres: All schools are closed until the day of the 11-year-old’s funeral

All primary and secondary schools will remain closed according to an announcement issued by the municipality of Serres until the day of the funeral of the 11-year-old child who died in the explosion that occurred in the boiler room at the 9th Primary School of Serres.

Also, the municipality assures, among other things, its determination to help “by any means and in any way” the clarification of the accident.

“There are no words capable of describing the magnitude of the tragedy of the loss of the 6th Grade student from the explosion in the boiler room of the 9th Primary School of Serres.
Our thoughts at this time are only with the family of this bereaved child, to whom we express our deepest condolences and undivided support.

We wish our two injured students a full and speedy recovery.

We state in the most emphatic way that we are determined to assist by any means and in any way in clarifying every aspect of the accident, which must never happen again.

Already, the competent authorities are carrying out the necessary investigations to fully ascertain the causes and assign responsibility.

Due to the unspeakable tragedy, as a sign of mourning, the Municipality of Serres is suspending all planned festive and cultural events for the next few days.

At the same time, all Primary and Secondary Education schools in the Municipality of Serres will not operate until the day of the funeral.

The 9th Primary School, on the other hand, will remain closed until further notice”, concludes the announcement of the municipality.
