Traffic normal on both sides of the highway – What they decided during the meeting they held

The section of the E-65 Motorway from A/K Proastiou (97.3 km/h) to A/K Sofadon (72.3 km/h) was opened to traffic in both traffic streams, around 14:30 after the completion of the mobilization of Karditsa farmers. Shortly after 13:40 the farmers left and started to put their tractors on the side road.

According to karditsalive.net from 12, hundreds of farmers with their tractors from every corner of the Karditsiotikos plain were at the E65 junction in Karditsa participating in the mobilization decided at the meeting held last Thursday in Palamas at the initiative of EOASK and the participation of representatives agricultural associations and individual farmers.

Speaking to the gathered farmers, the President of EOASK Mr. Kon. Jellas thanked them and congratulated them for their participation in the mobilization and their fighting spirit, pointing out that their goal of climbing the E65 was achieved even without their agricultural machinery, at this point criticizing the government for the large mobilization of the police forces.

After briefly referring to the problems that compel, as he said, the rural world to take to the streets and claim solutions to their just demands, he emphasized that the fight will be dynamic to put even more pressure on the government. His proposal which was accepted by the farmers who participated in the assembly is to seek an immediate meeting with the Minister of Agriculture.

Regarding the continuation of the match was decided to set up a coordinating committee with the participation of representatives from each village that will gather every noon and for as many days as the mobilization is in progress at 12.00 at the junction to discuss and then inform the farmers in their villages while tomorrow at 5.00 in the afternoon a new assembly on the block. On Saturday at 1 a.m. in Palamas, a meeting of the Secretariat of the Panhellenic Committee of Blocks will be held to assess the situation and coordinate their struggle.

What are the farmers asking for?

Based on the relevant notice of EOASK farmers claim tax-free oil, generous subsidy on supplies, ceiling on rural electricity at 0.07 cents/kwh. They also demand that the lignite units operate, and to abolish, as the announcement specifically states, “the energy exchange, pollution trading and tolls.” They also demand guaranteed prices for cotton, but also all agricultural products based on the cost of production and a subsistence income so that their production, as they point out, “reaches cheap and wholesome consumption for the people.” At peak requests and immediate payment of all subsidies to denitrification programs where there have been major cuts, based on satellite monitoring of areas.

Finally, the farmers are claiming replacement of the income they will lose with the implementation of the new CAP, losses which, as argued by the President of EOASK, Mr. Kon. Jellas in the press conference he gave in view of the mobilization will reach 14 million to 20 million € per year only for our county, money that will be missing from the local market with chain effects on all branches of the local economy. The contentious context also includes fixed demands of the agricultural world such as 100% compensation from ELGA, and the construction of infrastructure and irrigation projects.
