A 23-year-old man was sentenced to a total prison term of 4 years and 3 months, who sat on the bench of the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki, accused of seducing and fatally injuring a 14-year-old schoolgirl, leaving her bleeding on the road.

The fatal traffic accident had occurred in March 2017 in Alexandria Imathia, while the minor was returning home from the tutoring school, while the drag was so severe that the victim was thrown 26 meters away from the accident site.

Examining the case in the second degree, the Court found the accused guilty of the felony of disturbing the safety of transportation, with possible intent, resulting in death (applying the most favorable law in force at the time of the act) and of abandoning a traffic accident (in misdemeanor degree).

The judges decided to change the penalty to 5 euros/day.

Under these circumstances, the 23-year-old was released.

At first instance, he was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison, with the recognition of the mitigating factor of post-adolescent age, while the sentence had a suspensive effect on its execution in view of the Court of Appeal (with restrictive conditions).

According to the case file, the defendant (18 years old at the time) was driving at excessive speed, while the car was tampered with (“made up”) and also had worn tires.

It was found that he did not have a driver’s license.

He was driving at least 90 km/h, while the speed limit was 50. He didn’t have a license, so he didn’t know how to drive well. The vehicle was technically unsafe, it had tires of different sizes and old: one 5 and the other 15 years old. And the non-automotive person concludes that the car, with such old tires, does not become such that it reacts“, the district attorney said in his plea, with which he pleaded guilty to the young driver.

Earlier in his apology, the 23-year-old expressed his condolences to the parents of the unfortunate student expressing his pain at her loss.

It was night, there was no lighting on the road where the pedestrian was thrown. I was driving at 60-65 km/h, not 100He reported and denied that there were modifications to the car as well as that he left the scene of the drift. He also emphasized that if the 14-year-old passed through the crossings, nothing would happen.
