Car designers analyze every element related to the appearance, safety and functionality of the new models.
The team of designers who created the design for the new Honda HR-V combined Honda’s “Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum” (M / M) philosophy – which is based on the idea that the purpose of technology is to serve its needs driver and passengers – with a culture that focuses on the concepts of light and air. According to the company, the new model achieves superior levels of comfort and spaciousness in the competitive category of compact C-SUVs.
To ensure space, Honda engineers assembled all the hybrid powertrains inside the chassis and engine compartment.
Notable developments are the new air intake path and the integration of components in the upper part of the engine. This allows the electric motors and the motor-generator to be placed in the engine compartment for optimal space utilization.
The brand also reduced the size of the Power Control Unit (PCU) by 20% compared to the previous generation. This allows the 12v auxiliary battery to be placed in the engine compartment, freeing up rear space, which was made possible by the use of more advanced semiconductors for the PCU.
Another important element for maximizing cabin space is the position of the fuel tank in the center of the chassis, under the front seats, unique in its class. In addition, the Ventilation and Air Conditioning Unit (HVAC) has become much more compact, allowing the adoption of a low, horizontally oriented design for improved front visibility and a feeling of more space than the compact footprint of the model.
The sense of connection to the outside world starts with visibility, which is the result of several improvements. The new driving position is 10 mm higher compared to the previous model. In addition, the windows are designed to let in as much light as possible. The flat line of the hood and the bases of the mirrors that have been moved lower to the doors contribute to this.
The spacious and versatile interior is designed to reflect the owner’s lifestyle instead of the list price, with vibrant and high quality materials and equipment available in all versions.
The next generation of front seats better stabilizes the body exclusively through cushions, eliminating the previous structure with springs, which reduces fatigue on long trips and increases comfort in daily use. For added driving comfort, the controls are carefully in the driver’s field of vision. The simple, easy-to-use layout enhances the feeling of spaciousness, while the instantly recognizable controls of the sound and air conditioning systems provide safe and intuitive operation.
Although the overall dimensions of the vehicle are similar to the previous model, the new HR-V offers more space for the legs and shoulders. In addition to increasing the legroom by 35 mm, there is an additional inclination of two degrees compared with the previous generation, due to the central layout of the Honda tank and the smart placement of the hybrid components. The structure of the platform supports the flexible arrangement of Magic Seat rear seats that can be folded down or up, depending on the required loading space.
The feature that can have the greatest impact on the cabin atmosphere for passengers is also the Air Diffusion System, which introduces an innovation in the field of air conditioning, with L-shaped air vents located high at the edges of the dashboard. providing all passengers with the refreshing effect of the natural breeze.
There is a selector for switching between two programs: the normal outlet with air flow forward and the Air Diffusion System which creates a new gentle flow. When the Air Diffusion System is selected, a discreet and gentle airflow is directed towards the side windows. The air also “travels” to the roof, creating a gentle vortex that is almost imperceptible to passengers. The heat emitted from the side windows in summer is blocked by an air curtain that forms around the front and rear seat passengers, as well as the cold air during winter.
Rear passengers also benefit through the rear air vents. The combination of these features ensures the maintenance of a constant indoor temperature, in all weather conditions.
With a fully loaded floor and flexible Honda Magic Seats rear seats, the HR-V has the flexibility to carry a wide variety of luggage and sports equipment.
The ease of access to the load compartment is not affected by the sloping roof. The clever arrangement of spaces in combination with the Magic Seats, the low step of the rear door, the low level loading floor, but also the large opening of the rear door maximize the space and facilitate the access. Surfboards can be carried inside the car as well as two adult mountain bikes (with the front wheels removed) in an upright position. There is also provision for an additional, underfloor storage space for safe transport.
