by

A message for the protection of animals is sent by students of the 2nd High School of Chania, who created a “smart” system for feeding and watering the homeless.

For this initiative, the 13 high school students who participated in this creation were awarded today by the Bar Association of the city, as well as by the Animal Welfare Association.

According to Dimitris Vazakas, a third-grade student at the 2nd Gymnasium, “the idea for the creation of an automatic system for feeding and watering the homeless came from the need to take care of stray animals.” As he explained, the system consists of a food tank and a hose that is connected to a tap. The system operates with the help of sensors placed at the base of the construction.

“Our idea for the implementation of this system makes us proud, as the issue of animal protection is a very important issue,” said the 2nd grade student of the 2nd High School.

During the awarding of the children, the president of the Bar Association of Chania, Giannis Daskalakis, stressed that the effort of the students of the 2nd High School of the city must find imitators, while the president of the Panhellenic Association for the Protection of Animals, Anastasia Bombolaki, expressed hope the creation of children to be “embraced” -through the actions required- by municipalities of the country.

The director of the 2nd High School of Chania, Antonis Athanasakis, pointed out that the 13 students proceeded to the creation of this system during the summer with the assistance of the Technical University of Crete.
