Senate approves PEC that creates IPTU discount for ecologically correct properties

by

The Senate approved this Tuesday (13) a PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) that creates environmental criteria for the reduction of the rate of the IPTU (Tax on Property and Urban Land).

Named Green IPTU, the proposal aims to encourage urban property owners to preserve the environment.

The project foresees that city halls will be able to exempt IPTU from properties that maintained native vegetation or part of it preserved. It also opens up the possibility of giving a discount to properties that use renewable energy and that make use of rainwater, among other measures with a sustainable bias.

Now, the proposal is sent to the Chamber of Deputies for analysis. The text provides that the IPTU exemption in areas with native vegetation would come into effect 180 days after the enactment of the PEC, while the discounts on sustainable properties were effective immediately.

Now, the PEC goes to the Chamber of Deputies. The IPTU exemption for areas with native vegetation only takes effect 180 days after enactment. The possibility of discount for sustainable properties would be in force from the enactment.

Currently, the Constitution does not determine criteria for reducing the tax. IPTU is levied on houses, apartments or commercial establishments located in urban areas. Senator Plínio Valério (PSDB-AM) is the author of the proposal.
