For “consumption savings that will reach 75%” and for “significant financial and environmental benefits”, the mayor of the city spoke
The administration of the municipality of Thessaloniki is preparing to change the lights in streets, neighborhoods, parks and squares, in an effort to make the city as bright and safer as possible, while the parallel goal is to reduce waste and excessive energy consumption.
At noon, the mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, signed the contract for the energy-saving upgrade of the electric lighting system in common areas. It is a project with a budget of 18.6 million euros, through which it is expected to replace 10,000 lamps throughout the city, which currently have high consumptions, with new LED ones.
In addition to the upgrade to 10,000 lighting fixtures, special systems will be created for the remote control and control of the electrical panels. With these “intelligent” systems, the lights will turn on and off automatically, and as soon as a malfunction is noticed, the service will be immediately informed to replace the burned out bulbs and repair any problem.
Work by the consortium of companies undertaking the project will begin in March 2023 and efforts will be made to complete it within six months.
For “consumption savings that will reach 75%” and for “significant economic and environmental benefits”, Mr. Zervas spoke in his statements. “In the coming months, an important energy upgrade project will begin, so that no part of Thessaloniki will remain dark. At the same time, with the new technology we will maintain, repair and intervene easily in all the damages that will be recorded”, he emphasized.
