The predictions of the scientists about the course of the coronavirus pandemic in our country are nightmarish, if the Omicron mutation prevails.
THE George Atsalakis, Associate Professor at the University of Crete, explained speaking on SKAI TV, that as soon as the cases of this new mutation reach 50 to 100, the increase of infections will be exponential.
“Once we reach about 50 to 100 cases from there and beyond there will be an exponential increase and in 2-3 weeks we will have a very large number of cases that we may not have seen daily,” said the professor.
Mr. Atsalakis also said that Omicron is spreading at four times the speed of the Delta and “almost no measure stops it”.
He suggested the implementation of partially strict lockdowns to prevent contacts and crowds, while characterizing as perhaps the last measure the imposition of a total lockdown.
According to the models of the scientists, any exponential increase of the cases due to Omicron, will drag the admissions to the hospitals that could even quadruple, according to Mr. Atsalakis, dramatically burdening the already burdened health system. Even deaths may double.
