The agencies are on alert – the scientists are reassuring

“We are closely monitoring the phenomenon. The Psachni and Evvoikos faults require surveillance”, said Geology and Natural Disaster Management professor Efthimios Lekkas speaking this morning on the “SIMERA” show on SKAI, adding that three historical earthquakes have been recorded in the area in the past.

For this reason, as the professor said, it was done immediately convocation of the Earthquake Risk Assessment Committee and within an hour a conclusion was issued which is confidential and forwarded to the relevant bodies.

Mr. Lekkas stated that the confidential conclusion contains, in its first part, the scientists’ assessment of the seismic risk, while in the second part, which concerns the agencies, instructions are given on how they should act.

However, the professor appeared reassuring about the evolution of the phenomenon, underlining that “there is no reason for greater concern”.

However, he clarified that the attention of scientists is “directed” to the seismic sequence and they are on alert. That is why he said that today at noon it is expected to meet the Permanent Special Scientific Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment and Seismic Risk Reduction of the OASP.
