The state apparatus is on full alert after the earthquakes of 4.7 and 4.9 on the Richter scale that occurred today in the region of Western Lesbos, as stated in a statement by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protections.

Specifically, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Stylianidis in consultation with the President of OASP and President of the Permanent Special Scientific Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment and Seismic Risk Reduction of OASP, Professor Efthymi Lekka decided that the Commission would constantly monitor the phenomenon in order to convene if necessary and when it has sufficient scientific data at its disposal.

Also, the Minister of Climate Crisis contacted the Regional Governor and the competent Mayors from whom he was informed about the situation and to whom he indicated that the competent state agencies are ready to provide any assistance. At the same time, local authorities have implemented the “England” Plan.

At the same time, Mr. Stylianidis communicated with the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Responsible for State Aid and Rehabilitation from Natural Disasters, Mr. Christos Triandopoulos and it was agreed that on Monday – monitoring the development of the phenomenon – DAEFK officials will visit the island for an autopsy on the few buildings that have minor damage in cooperation with the Municipalities of the area.

Civil Protection and Fire Brigade forces, including EMAK, are on heightened alert.
