Municipality and scientists in northern Lesbos for on-site inspections
The post-seismic sequence is progressing smoothly until this morning, with the phenomenon that started yesterday Saturday at dawn spreading with many aftershocks no larger than three degrees on the Richter scale.
The mayor of Western Lesbos Taxiarchis Verros and the professor of Geology and Natural Disaster Management and president of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization, Efthymis Lekkas, have been in the Lepetymnos massif in northern Lesvos since the morning – in order to examine the results so far of the seismic process – as well as Professor Nikos Zouros from the research team of the Laboratory of Applied Geomorphology and Environmental Geology of the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean. The state apparatus is also alert, with the local authorities having implemented the “Englades” plan.
Tomorrow, Monday, a group of engineers from Athens will visit the island in order to perform an autopsy on the buildings where damage has been reported, private and public. Also, by decision of the mayor of Western Lesvos, the schools will not be open tomorrow, in order to check all of them for any damage.
