Whitened the landscape in Kaimaktsalan, Seli, 3-5 Pigadia, Vasilitsa, Falakro, in Lailia and Metsovo – Optimism that the season is starting
Whitened the landscape in the ski resorts of Northern Greece with the temporary worsening of weather conditions. This is the first one snow that falls on the mountain tops, which may not be enough for skiers to “enjoy”, but it makes winter sports people smile and be optimistic that the season is now starting.
The first snow fell in the last hours in Kaimaktsalan, Shelly, 3-5 Wells, Vasilitsa, Baldin Lailia and Metsovo, at an altitude of 1500 meters and above. The unseasonably high temperatures so far have kept skiers and snowboarders away from the slopes, but if the conditions continue and the snow cover improves, then some ski resorts will start operating immediately.
“The first snows are falling and the landscape has finally turned white. It is not enough to open the ski resorts, but if the conditions continue and the snow cover improves, then surely some slopes will be able to operate”, the member of the Union of Ski Centers of Greece and executive of the company “Mountain Tourism IKE Ski Services” told APE-MPE Center” for the 3-5 Wells Alexandros Noulikas.
As Mr. Nulikas said, this year in all the Balkans there were no snowfall phenomena, while the high temperatures did not even allow the production of artificial snow. At the moment, the most snow is in Kaimaktsalan, with the temperature at -2.2 degrees Celsius and chains or snow tires are required on the road, while in Vasilitsa the mercury is at -1.3 degrees.
