The cycle of examining the witnesses before the Special Court on the responsibility of the ministers closed today and the following Monday, January 23, 2023, the former head of the Corruption Prosecution, Eleni Touloupaki, will apologize.
More specifically, before the Special Court where the former Deputy Minister of Justice Dimitris Papagelopoulos and Eleni Touloupaki are being tried today, 5 defense witnesses of the public prosecutor’s office testified.
The first to testify was the professor of orthopedics at the University of Crete, Georgios Kontakis, who is a colleague of Mrs. Touloupaki’s brother, who referred to the character of the prosecutor and her career in the prosecutor’s field, while he described Mrs. Touloupaki as an ideal officer for the Prosecutor’s Office.
The journalist Georgios Lakopoulos was the second witness who called Mrs. Touloupakis intimidation the attacks she received when she forwarded the case file on the ten politicians to the Parliament, while at the same time he called these attacks unfair.
Evangelos Xynos, a professor at the University of Crete and a colleague of Mrs. Touloupaki’s brother, was the third witness who spoke positively about the public prosecutor.
A fourth witness testified was Argyro Mastoraki, an employee of the Independent Public Revenue Authority-AADE (scientific staff), who in her capacity had investigated (opening bank accounts, etc.) Antonis Samaras, Ioannis Stournaras, Adonis Georgiadis and Andreas Vgenopoulos . Mrs. Xynou pointed out that she never received any interference in her work, both from Mrs. Touloupakis and from the assistant prosecutors at the time.
Finally, the fifth and last witness testified was AADE employee Kostoula Tarantili, who characterized Mrs. Touloupaki as typical in her official duties with whom she had excellent relations, just as the prosecutor’s officer had excellent relations with her other colleagues.
