Evros: The declaration was signed for the extension of the fence to a length of 35 kilometers

by

It concerns a section of approximately 35 kilometers between Psathades Didymoteicho to Kornofolia Soufliou – The extension, as the Minister of Citizen Protection has stated to SKAI, will reach a total of 140 kilometers

In implementation of the decision of KYSEA and AKRITA plan of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos and the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Eleftherios Oikonomou, signed today, Thursday January 12, 2023, the declaration for the new fence on the Evros.

This project concerns the construction of an Artificial Barrier and accompanying works along the Methori E/T in the area of Psathades Didymoteicho to Kornofolia Soufliou in P.E. Evros, to ensure public order and safety.

It is noted that the rapid developments related to the “instrumentalization” of the immigration issue, result in an unpredictable and unusual increase in immigration flows that extends along the land borders of the country with unforeseen consequences for public order and security.

For this reason, a rapid and effective treatment of the identified problem is required. In addition, it is considered necessary and urgent to extend the existing deterrent barrier in phase A, in a length of about 35 kilometers in the area between the “Psathades” settlement of Didymoteicho to the area of Kornofolia of Soufli and which constitutes the first part of the total 140 kilometers.
