Traffic regulations may be extended or reduced and may not apply depending on prevailing traffic conditions
In order to ensure the smooth and safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles due to the funeral procession of the former King Constantine, which will be chanted in the Holy Metropolis of Athens, temporary traffic regulations are already being implemented on the roads of the center of Athens.
Specifically, according to a relevant decision of the Attica Traffic Directorate:
From 6 in the morning and until 2:00 p.m., a temporary suspension of vehicle traffic is in effect on the following streets of the Municipality of Athens:
- Metropolis throughout its length,
- Aeolos in the section between Andrianou and Ermou streets,
- Ermou in the section between Aiolou and Athena streets.
In addition, it is prohibited to stop and park vehicles on the above streets, until 02:00 p.m.
It is clarified that the traffic regulations may be extended or reduced as well as not applied depending on the prevailing traffic conditions, at the discretion of the head of Traffic measures.
Also according to the announcement of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, access to the chapel of Agios Eleftherios near the Metropolitan Church, where the body of the former king will be located, will be free until 11:00 am. on Monday January 16, while thereafter, at the request of the family, access to the Metropolitan Church will be restricted to family guests.
