The 12 defendants for the murder of Alkis Kampanos denied the charges against them.
With the drawing of the jury, including two substitutes, and the reading of the indictment, which is particularly heavy, the second session began for the brutal murder of Alkis Kampanos, at the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki.
Subsequently, the 12 defendants entered the room and stated their name, marital status, work and place of residence. The floor was taken by the district attorney, who read out the indictment, with the perpetrators listening to her with their heads bowed.
After the procedure was completed, the president of the seat gave the floor to the defendants to briefly state their position, with everyone stressing that they do not accept the charges attributed to them.
It is recalled that all are charged with manslaughtercommitted (in the case of Alkis) and attempted (in the case of the first injured young man), jointly, one of them for attempted murder in the case of the second injured young man, and the remaining 11 as simple accomplices in the specific act, all for assault and possession of objects that can cause bodily harm, with the aggravating provisions of the Sports Law, as well as for illegal carrying and use of weapons.
What the defendants said before the court:
First defendant: I do not accept the accusations, I was there but I did nothing, I am very sorry for what happened.
Second: I am very sorry for what happened, I do not accept the accusations.
Third: I am very sorry, I do not accept the accusations, I was present at the scene.
Fourth: I apologize to Alki’s family, I do not accept the accusations.
Fifth: I was at the scene but I haven’t done anything, I don’t accept the accusations.
Except: I do not accept the accusations.
Seventh: I do not accept the accusations.
Eighth: I do not accept the accusations.
Ninth: I participated in the incident, I categorically deny the charge of murder. I want to apologize to Alki’s family.
Tenth: I deny the accusations, I apologize. I feel deeply remorseful for everything that happened that night, I take responsibility for my actions and ask that I only be punished for what I actually did. I admit that I hit one of Alki’s friends, but I never came in contact with him and his other friend.
Eleventh: Sorry for everything that happened.
Twelfth: Condolences to all the families, I want to emphasize that I had the role of a taxi driver, I was 80 meters from the incident. I never got out of the car.
At the same time, the side supporting the accusation submitted an oral complaint, asking to investigate during the hearing process whether the offenses of criminal organization and distinguished weapons possession are substantiated and that the minutes of the trial be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.
