So far, 14 thefts and 4 attempts have been solved in houses, in Marousi, Chalandri, Heraklion, Nea Ionia, Peristeri, Galatsi, Agioi Anargyrou Moschato and Nea Peramo in Attica as well as in Aigio Achaia, with the illegal financial benefit they obtained from them exceeding the 100,000 euros.
Those arrested, who have been employed repeatedly in the past for offenses with the same method of action, were brought to the competent prosecution authority, while investigations to fully ascertain the scope of their illegal activity continue.
Between yesterday afternoon and this morning, three members of the organization aged 44, 30 and 26 were arrested, including the leader of the gang.
A case file was filed against them – on a case-by-case basis – for a criminal organization that committed distinguished thefts committed and attempted, by complicity and by continuation, disobedience as well as violations of the laws on weapons and money laundering.
Such as came up from the multi-month, preliminary investigation, the members of the organization, at least since September 2021, had set up and joined a criminal organization to commit burglaries and distinguished thefts from houses, mainly in areas of Attica.
The arrested constituted the main body of the organization, however they made sure that recruit new members in order to be used in the commission of thefts – burglaries, during which they followed a specific methodology.
Their starting point was Zephyri. They located remote houses, which they entered from the balconies, after they had previously established that there were no people inside. Next, they removed sums of money, valuables, jewelry, gold and anything else that would bring them financial benefit.
During their action, each member of the organization undertook specific role.
The 30-year-old leader, coordinated the members of the organization and gave orders, while many times he entered the houses, searched the premises, received information from the butler and, together with the other members of the group, removed valuables, money and objects,
The 26-year-old key member of the group and a relative of the leader, together with the other members of the group broke balcony doors, entered the houses and removed various valuables and objects, while
The 44-year-old owned the vehicle of the service of the group even if he did not participate in the theft, and when he did, he always had the role of the driver of the company vehicle.
In order to conceal their criminal activity, they took special self-protection measures by wearing gloves while using earphones for their telephone communications with each other.
At the same time, they never mentioned their normal names, used pseudonyms and nicknames, frequently changed telephone connections and devices, while the ones they used during the thefts and in their daily life were mainly declared to non-existent foreigners.
Indicative of the level of their activity and organization is the use of a radio transceiver, while it is noteworthy that both they and their families declared income less than their expenses, avoided submitting tax returns, kept a large number of vehicles and spent a large amount of money on orders, rentals, fuel and vehicle purchases.
From the searches carried out in Zefyri and Aspropyrgos with the assistance of OPKE police officers, the following were found and confiscated: a number of watches, gold and jewelry, a number of mobile phones, sim cards, laptops, electronic devices and gaming machines, a number of of burglar tools, cutter, table cards, metal tag, car with chassis number and metal piece with written vehicle chassis number, folding knife and scissors.
Also 83.7 euros, an amount of money in US dollars, 1,000 Austrian shillings and 5,000 Venezuelan bolivars, a number of documents and two vehicles.
