Christmas Eve with the setting of the sun, a branch of the Charitable Organization “APOSTOLI” of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, distributed love packages to the homeless in the capital. This is not the first time – in the midst of a pandemic and an increase in cases – where “APOSTOLI” listens to the anguish of abandonment and loneliness of the homeless, sharing basic necessities, many wishes for a happy new year and a smile to support hope in those who renew every time the appointment with her.
Helper this time is the Hellenic Police, which always meets the requirements of our time, close to the citizen, transforming the empathy that governs all those serving in the Hellenic Police Force.
Food parcels include solid food, sweets, water and fruit juices, but sometimes humanitarian aid is accompanied by bedding, clothing, footwear and personal hygiene items, depending on weather conditions, circumstances and the needs of those in need.
The needs and conditions experienced by the homeless were mapped, which, now due to a pandemic, are increasing, as a result of which, “APOSTOLI” is adjusting its humanitarian interventions.
The profile of the people who are waiting for the help of “APOSTOLIS” every time are drug addicts, prisoners, needy who roam the streets, squares and galleries to find shelter to spend the night constructing their makeshift accommodation.
Recipients of this aid and retirees, financially weak people, our fellow human beings who were initially led to a dead end by the crisis, which has now become despair and despair with the invisible enemy of the pandemic.
The employees of “APOSTOLIS” and volunteers continue uninterruptedly to keep the orders of Archbishop Ieronymos, to stand by the homeless, to show them in practice that they are not alone, to convey his words that the Church with all its strength and with remarkable collaborations will support them and will meet their expectations, underlined, the General Manager of “APOSTOLIS” Konstantinos Dimtsas.
The Head of Public Relations of the Charitable Organization “APOSTOLI”, Ioannis Petalas, coordinated the whole effort and presence, for the transmission of a message of solidarity and love. He then conveyed the blessing and wishes of Archbishop Ieronymos to the Leadership of the Hellenic Police Corps and the Ministry of Citizen Protection, while thanking all participants and each one individually.
