SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection.
The positivity in the total of tested samples decreased compared to the previous week.
Both the number of new intubations and the number of admissions for COVID-19 showed a decrease.
The number of intubated patients with COVID-19 infection was 153 and there were 168 deaths with a median age of 85 years (range 55-97).
The BA.5 sub-variant is still the most common Omicron sub-variant
The percentage of the sub-variant BQ.1.1 increased in relation to the other sub-variants of the strain BA.5 ✓ most frequent sub-variant of BA.2 remains BA.2.75 with a percentage of 46%, the sub-variant CH.1.1 corresponds at a rate of approximately 35% of BA.2 strains, while the XBB sub-variant follows with a rate of 15%.
The XBB.1.5 sub-variant has been detected in a total of 9 samples.
Viral load surveillance in municipal wastewater showed an increase in SARSCoV2 circulation in 2 of the 10 areas tested.
Influenza virus
Influenza positivity in the community showed no significant change.
2 new severe cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded, involving patients hospitalized in ICUs and 2 new deaths in the week of 03/2023.
From week 40/2022 to week 03/2023, 55 people with flu were hospitalized in ICU and 17 deaths were recorded.
From week 40/2022 to week 03/2023, 249 samples positive for influenza viruses (sentinel samples and hospital samples) were recorded in the two influenza reference centers, of which 246 (99%) were type A strains and 3 ( 1%) were type B strains.
Of the 245 type A strains, 236 (96%) were classified as subtype A(H3N2) and 9 (4%) as subtype A(H1N1)pdm09.
