A total of 422 calls have been received by the Fire Department Operations Center from Wednesday, January 25, until today at 6 am, due to the occurrence of heavy rain and storms, accompanied by strong winds, with hail, as well as snow.

These calls mainly concern water pumping, rescues from elevators, cutting trees and removal of people to safe places.

Specifically:

* In the Attica Region, the Operations Center of the Fire Brigade received 210 calls, while actions were taken in 127 cases, mainly for pumping water, extricating people from elevators and transporting people, mainly drivers, to safe places

* In the Region of Central Macedonia, 25 calls were received, while actions were taken in 23 cases, mainly for water pumping

* In the Region of Western Greece, 50 calls were received, while actions were taken in 29 cases, mainly for water pumping

* In the Region of the Ionian Islands (Zakynthos) it received 100 calls, while actions were taken in 52 cases, mainly for pumping water

* In the Region of Thessaly, 15 calls were received, while actions were taken in 8 cases, for water pumping and tree cutting

* In the Peloponnese Region, 22 calls were received, while actions were taken in 14 cases, mainly for water pumping

It is noted that according to the updated Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena issued yesterday, Thursday, January 26, 2023 by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the dangerous phenomena are expected to occur until today, Friday (27-01-2023).

Specifically:

1. Heavy rain and storms are forecast until the early morning hours in Thrace, the northern Aegean islands and the eastern Cyclades, until the morning hours in the eastern Aegean islands and until noon in the Dodecanese.

2. Snowfall will occur in the continental mountainous-semi-mountainous areas, which will be dense in places in Thrace (indicative altitude of 500-600 meters and above) until the early hours of the morning.

3. Southerly winds will locally reach the southeast Aegean at 8 to 9 Beaufort in the morning hours.

The Fire Services of the above areas and the entire Civil Protection mechanism remain fully prepared in order to deal with any problems immediately.

Finally, the Fire Department makes a strong recommendation to restrict movement to the absolutely necessary, during the occurrence of weather phenomena in the above areas.
