The 40-year-old wife even stated that she has been living in hell for three months
Another domestic case went to court in Volos yesterday, with a 45-year-old from Almyros being sent to prison after his wife complained that he cursed her and threatened to throw her out of the house together with their two minor children.
In fact, the fight between the husband and wife on Sunday night terrified the two children, aged 16 and 11, who called the police themselves. Their father was arrested and in custody.
The family resides permanently in Almyros at the 45-year-old’s home, while, as revealed in the courtroom, the couple’s relationship is particularly strained.
In her testimony yesterday before the Three-member Criminal Court of Volos, the 40-year-old stated that in recent years there has been a bad situation in the marital home, as her husband drinks and becomes violent, while there are no shortage of cases where in the past he has assaulted her, as he is jealous of her.
As she explained, however, things have gotten out of hand especially in the last three months, following the results of the woman’s medical tests. On the occasion of these tests, her husband has come to the conclusion that she is cheating on him and is often led to violent outbursts against her, while he never misses an opportunity to insult her.
The reason for the incident, which the 40-year-old reported, was her refusal to show the accused her mobile phone. Then the 45-year-old started cursing her vulgarly, while also verbally attacking their 16-year-old daughter, saying “I’ll throw you on the street, I’ll cut off your electricity.”
The 40-year-old even declared, causing shivers in the audience, that she was not intimidated by this possibility as she has been living a hell for three months.
She announced that she has made a decision to divorce, while she is already staying with the couple’s children at her parents’ house.
The 45-year-old, on the other hand, presented a completely different version of events in his apology. He said that on the day of the fight he had simply had “three beers”, and while he was sitting on the sofa, his wife attacked him screaming “with her claws”, with the defendant’s parents stepping in to separate them.
He denied that he cursed the woman, and claimed that he has claw marks on his hands, while he visited the Health center but did not present any similar evidence to the headquarters.
As he claimed, his wife’s behavior has changed and he suspects that she is cheating on him, but he had decided to “swallow the horn” for the sake of their children.
When the Prosecutor commented that the two children of the couple were particularly disturbed by the fight, the man replied “I want my house, to divorce and I will pay alimony for the children, as I have an obligation”.
The court found the 45-year-old not guilty of the threat, and guilty of insulting his wife’s sexual dignity. The man was given a 6-month sentence suspended for three years, on condition that he not approach his wife within a distance of less than a hundred meters, while he was given a right of appeal with suspensive force.
As the climate between the two spouses was still tense, the court advised the couple to immediately start the divorce and interim measures process.
