The first “green” hospital in Greece it is a fact and is located in the area of ​​Ptolemaida.
The reason for the General Bodosakeio Hospital, which has now gained its energy autonomy, while reducing its environmental footprint and saving a significant amount of money which is expected to upgrade the services that will be offered to patients.

As the commander of the 3rd Health Region of Macedonia (to which Bodosakeio belongs), Panagiotis Boyatzidis, tells GRTimes, “the hospital will produce all the energy it needs for electricity, heating and cooling, through hydrogen”.

In fact, according to Mr. Boyatzidis, the hospital will not produce pollutants, while it will dispose of it photovoltaic park which will supply energy to the first hydrogen node in Greece, which will be installed in a space granted by the municipality of Eordaia and in turn will provide electricity and water, which will be used for heating and cooling the hospital.

Money will be saved which will benefit patients and workers
“It was in our plans to proceed with the specific interventions, but due to the energy crisis, the fact of the energy transition of our hospital acquires even greater importance,” the administrator of Bodosakeiou, Stavros Papasotiriou, tells GRTimes.

Describing the benefits that will arise from this particular upgrade, Mr. Papasotiriou emphasizes that “we will be energy independent, which will help us tosave about 175 thousand euros every month!”.

This money, according to the governor, will be used for the benefit of patients and employees, as “it will be invested in various actions that will upgrade the quality of the hospital and its services”.

The resources used to carry out these interventions come from the Region of Western Macedonia.

In order for Bodosakeio Hospital to become the first energy-independent hospital in Greece, the Region of Western Macedonia, the Municipality of Eordaia, the National Center for Research & Technological Development (EKETA), the Ministry of Health, the administration of Bodosakeio Hospital and the 3rd Health Department had to cooperate Region.
