A green lung of 28 acres will open its “doors” for the citizens of Heraklion next Sunday (5/2).
The historic Fix Estate passed into the ownership of the municipality, after years of efforts, and the municipal Authority will turn it into a large park, which is expected to make its own significant contribution to the quality of the citizens’ everyday life. At the same time, there is a plan to properly utilize the building that exists within the estate.
“It will be the largest park in our city, which will be a landmark of greenery, culture and history for many more generations of Heraklion residents,” said the mayor, Nikos Babalos, among others.
How will it be used?
Regarding the municipal Authority’s plans regarding the future of the Fix Estate, Mr. Babalos said: “The utilization of the Estate will take place in two stages. In the first phase, after we have properly prepared it with the services of the municipality, we will open its doors, starting from this Sunday, February 5, so that the citizens of Heraklion can walk on it, the children can play, the city can acquire the park which she deserves.
The second phase concerns the general plan of the formation of the Estate, including the preserved historic villa within its boundaries, something that the Municipal Council of the city will decide on, with an environmental, cultural and historical sign”.
