The nomination file was submitted to the competent committee of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Directorate of Quality Systems and Organic Agriculture, Department of PDO PGI EPIP), so that “Revani Veroia” could be certified with the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) mark.
As notified by the Municipality of Veria, the preparation and writing of the relevant identification file, within the framework of the Interreg LOC-FOOD project, was done by the submission of the necessary documents by the Federation of Professionals – Artisans and Merchants of Veria in collaboration with the Municipality of Veria – Department of Tourism and the Association of Confectioners of Beoria, after the selection of the product by the Macedonia and Thrace Sector of the Ministry of the Interior, so that it can be promoted for the acquisition of the PGE label.
The file is in the process of evaluation by the competent committee, based on EU policy. for the quality and protection of the name of specific products, with the aim of promoting their unique characteristics, which are linked to their geographical origin and traditional know-how.
In his statements, the mayor of Veria, Konstantinos Borgiazidis, pointed out that the effort “emphasizes and focuses on protecting the identity of the specific product, while the criterion is the acquisition of added value in the market and recognition from the consumer’s side”.
