Thessaloniki: Queues of kilometers of trucks at the Malgari tollbooth – Over 150 “stuck” due to the traffic ban (Video)

There are quite a few trucks that have stopped both before and after the Malgari toll road as their destination was Evia or Athens and due to the adverse weather conditions their traffic has been prohibited

Queues of kilometers have formed at the Malgari toll road, in Thessaloniki, from trucks that got stuck there due to the traffic ban in force by the Thessaloniki Traffic Authority. More than 150 heavy-duty vehicles, mostly with foreign number plates, have been immobilized.

“Up to Larissa, the traffic is proceeding normally”, the officer of the Thessaloniki Motorway Traffic Service Nea Malgara points out, speaking to APE-MBE, noting that “from Larissa and down, neither a truck nor any other vehicle is moving”.

It is emphasized that at noon today, Egnatia Road staff took a chemical toilet and water to the spot for the drivers, as there is no driver service station in Malgara.

In fact, as the hours pass, it is possible that the number of trucks will increase and the queue will grow even longer.

Most of the drivers are there, inside their vehicles since the morning, while almost all of them are from abroad, from Bulgaria and Turkey.

As the Traffic Authority had announced earlier, the traffic of any type of heavy vehicle with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons will not be allowed in the direction of Thessaloniki to Athens on the road axis of the PATHE Motorway, from Malgaron Tollway to Kleidi Junction, excluding those of the above vehicles whose final destination is up to the city of Larissa.
