Severe weather “Barbara”: A total of 145 calls were received by the Operations Center

The calls mainly concerned removal of people from immobilized vehicles to safe places, towing of vehicles, felling of trees and transport of kidney patients to hospitals.

A total of 145 calls were received by the Operations Center of the Fire Brigade from yesterday, Sunday, February 5, until today at 19:30 in the afternoon due to the bad weather “Barbara” that is affecting the country.

The calls mainly involved removing people from stationary vehicles to safe places, towing vehicles, cutting down trees and transporting kidney patients to hospitals.

Specifically:

In Region of Attica, in total the Fire Department Operations Center received 78 calls of which 18 were for the removal of people from vehicles that were stopped because they did not have anti-skid means. A total of 26 people were evacuated to safe places. In addition, 26 calls were for cutting down trees, 4 for removing objects and 30 calls for transporting kidney patients to hospitals.

In Region of Central Macedonia (Thessaloniki) received 33 calls, of which 28 for cutting down trees and 4 for removing objects and one for transporting a kidney patient to a hospital

In Central Greece (Evia, Boeotia) the Operations Center of the Fire Brigade received 34 calls, of which 30 were for tree felling and 4 for transporting patients to hospitals.

According to the updated data of the National Meteorological Service, severe weather will continue overnight tonight and into tomorrow, in the morning hours, while it will worsen with heavy snowfall and frost mainly in northern Attica. Likewise in Magnesia, Eastern Thessaly including the Sporades, Fthiotida, Boeotia and Evia.

For this reason, the Fire Brigade, in its announcement, makes a strong recommendation to limit movements to those absolutely necessary, during the occurrence of weather phenomena, while emphasizing the obligation of drivers to install and use anti-slip means.

“We ask our fellow citizens to be especially careful and follow the instructions of the competent authorities,” notes the Fire Department.
