With the examination witnesses of the indictment continues today for the 6th day, in the hall of the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki, the trial of the 12 defendants for the murderous attack, with fan motives, against the 19-year-old Alkis Kampanos, in the early hours of February 1, 2022, in the area of Harilaou.

A police officer from the Crimes Against Life Department of Thessaloniki, who participated in the investigations to identify the perpetrators, has been called to testify in court. However, before the police officer takes the witness stand, he will be asked to answer additional questions from the district attorney, the 20-year-old studentwith whose deposition the last meeting was concluded, last Monday.

This is about the young man who was in the company of the unfortunate Alkis, during the murderous attack on the steps of the apartment building on Th. Gazi Street and managed to leave the scene unharmed. Revealing to the judges an unknown dialogue between the perpetrators, after they asked the five-member group about the group they support and the answer was Aris, this witness testified that he heard one of the accused say “it’s not them, it’s not I know them, let’s go” for someone else to say the phrase “sta […] us. Let’s go!”.

Examined by the courtthe 20-year-old recounted the moment of the attack, saying “I saw 5-6 people coming towards me […] I saw a knife and crowbar […] I understood that something is wrong”, with him receiving “some punches” but without being injured, after putting his hands up for cover, while he described how he managed to escape by running towards Plastira Street, even though someone momentarily tried to chase him.

He learned about Alki’s death – as he said – at the hospital and until then he believed that both the 19-year-old and their other friend who was severely beaten by the attackers had managed to escape “on the opposite side of the road”. In response to questions from the defense lawyers, the 20-year-old (he is not present at the trial as a civil plaintiff, unlike the other victims) expressed the opinion that the perpetrators “did not intend to kill, but they certainly wanted to cause harm”.
