Thessaloniki: The teachers of the Dramatic School of the Greek Theater of Greek Orthodoxy resigned

The teachers of the Drama School of the State Theater of Northern Greece submitted their resignation today.

As noted in a related announcement, “today, finding that, while the mobilizations of students and artists throughout the country have intensified, those immediate measures have not been taken that would secure our students from the risk of being in a dead end, we are in the unpleasant position, to consciously and responsibly submit our resignation”.

“ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE TEACHERS / TEACHERS AT THE DRAMA SCHOOL OF THE STATE THEATER OF NORTHERN GREECE

Thessaloniki, February 9, 2023

For a month and a half now, we have been following the developments in the long-standing and serious issue of grading artists’ degrees, which came violently to the fore with the signing of PD85/2022.
We stood next to our students, considering their demands reasonable, their struggle civilized and mature, their anxiety about the future essential. Until now, we have not taken a public position, hoping for an immediate response from the state, which would not let the academic year of study be lost and, with it, the possibility of these young people to obtain a guarantee for the recognition of their education but also for the their subsequent course in the professional field of art.

We stand in solidarity, first of all, with our students at the Drama School of KTHBE, but also with our colleagues at the drama school of the National Theater and their own students, and we ask everyone in charge to help, so that the terms of PD85 that devalue the degree of artists but also of the regulation that separates artists into those practicing artistic and educational work and offends their collective agreements.

Today, finding that, while the mobilizations of students and artists throughout the country have intensified, those immediate measures have not been taken that would secure our students from the risk of being in a dead end, we are in the unpleasant position, consciously and responsibly to submit our resignation.
