Lekkas on SKAI: The dead will exceed 50,000 – There are still 80,000 trapped
The death toll from the earthquakes in southern Turkey and Syria exceeded 20,000, according to official estimates.
After 3 days of operations in Antioch, the Greek rescue team in Turkey is traversing the entire earthquake-stricken region of Turkey and going to impassable areas where help has not yet arrived.
Professor Efthymis Lekkas, from the car, told “Today” that at least 10 cities have suffered enormous destruction, “what we see is something else, we cannot imagine it.
Regarding the information about the 2 Greeks missing in the earthquake-stricken area, the professor said that they cannot be located as they do not have their exact location. “Those building blocks (where they lived) have completely collapsed and we can’t find streets, numbers, etc.,” said Mr. Lekkas. For the heroism of the EMAK team, the professor said that “the children were in danger many times and they deserve all the congratulations”.
Five days after the two deadly earthquakes, 80,000 people are trapped in the rubble and the death toll – as the hours pass and hope for survivors fades – will unfortunately reach and exceed 50,000.
