From next week, consumers will be able to compare supermarket offers

Consumers will be able from next week to compare and the weekly supermarket offers, in addition to the prices in the “Household Basket”.

As announced by the founder and general manager of Warply and head of e-katanalotis Yiannis Doxaras speaking to the Open TV station, in the next few days they will join on e-katanalotis and the offers of supermarket chains.

As he said, from next week, consumers will be able to compare both supermarket offers and the “basket”, in order to have as complete a picture as possible of the prices in the market and make the most correct ones for them. , choices.

He also noted that there is a consumer shift to looking at the price per kilo to form a more correct opinion on the price of a product.

Boycott

Meanwhile, on the occasion of INKA’s boycott of dairy products, from Monday 13 to 20 February 2023, the Minister of Development and Investments discussed this morning on the ANT1 television station Adonis Georgiades and the president of INKA, Giorgos Lehouritis.

Mr. Georgiadis said that “indeed, dairy products have seen a large increase, but not unreasonably so. The price of milk to the producer this year is the highest in the last 25 years. When the inflationary crisis started not only in Greece, but all over Europe, many farmers preferred to slaughter the animals, rather than maintain the milk production, as the costs increased too much and would lead them to bankruptcy. Production fell, demand remained the same, and thus prices rose, as the universal law of supply and demand worked.”

Mr. Georgiadis noted that “there is branded milk that is sold at low prices in the household basket and consumers, who are facing financial problems, can choose it”.

To the criticism of the representative of the consumer organization that the cart is a successful communication policy, but practically not essential for the citizens, the minister replied that the data from the ministry show that during the 15 weeks that the cart has been operating, it has maintained stable prices for the vast majority of its items, and from the surveys it seems that people buy from it, but as he noted: “And me, the creator of the “Basket”, if you ask me, I will tell you that I am not satisfied and that it is not enough to deal with the accuracy , but as an independent measure it was successful”.

Regarding another finding of the survey, where the majority of consumers requested the reduction of VAT on basic consumer goods goods, Mr. Georgiadis said that “the public is wrong about this. Reducing VAT is not a solution. In Spain, not a single minute of the reduction has passed to consumers and there is a thought to reinstate the reduced VAT.”

“It is not possible for the product to start from the field in 20 minutes and reach the market at a price of 1.80 euros and say it is normal. We are telling you that there is filthy lucre,” said the president of INKA.

In response, the minister referred to a specific brand of fresh milk that the consumer can find at a low price in the household basket while also referring to other, specifically, products and companies from the basket that maintain very low prices, such as spaghetti, flour, while recently, as he said, chicken was added at a low price.

Responding to a related comment by Giorgos Lehouritis about cheaper products in other countries, Mr. Georgiadis said that the ministry recently presented research “which was done on 5,000 product codes and shows that Greece is cheaper than other European countries, while the data on inflation show that in Greece food inflation is lower than in other countries”.

“Let the world know that we are doing everything we can to be precise and there is a result in this,” concluded the minister.
