The wave of solidarity and the offer of volunteers is huge

The response of the people of Thessaloniki to the Municipality’s call for a gathering is gigantic and incredibly moving humanitarian aid for the earthquake affected regions of Turkey and Syria.

Countless boxes and thousands essentials which arrived at the City Hall even before the departure (13/2), were loaded into 4-5 vans in order to be transported to stand 2 of the TIF from where they will depart in the next few days by road for Turkey and Syria together with the items collected from the Regional Union of Municipalities of Central Macedonia (PEDCM).

The transfer process of species at the TIF was carried out under the supervision of the Mayor, Konstantinos Zervas and the Authorized Municipal Councilor for Civil Protection actions, Vassilis Mousidis.

In his statements, Mr. Zervas, moved by the wave of solidarity shown by the people of Thessaloniki, said that the response was shocking from the first moment and they constantly brought the valuable goods needed by those affected by the earthquake. “We have moved away from cardboard boxes and we expect more boxes to be able to pack all the items,” he said characteristically.

For his part, Mr. Mousidis pointed out that the mission of humanitarian aid will be done in collaboration with PEDKM and added that the gathering will continue in the coming days as the aid from schools and businesses that have shown enormous interest has not yet arrived.

It is noted that it has grown in size in the last 24 hours wave of solidarity to those affected by the deadly earthquakes in Turkey and Syria as Thessalonians of all ages immediately responded to the call of the Municipality and offered all the necessities requested (medicines, gauze, masks, antiseptics, gloves, warm clothes for children and adults, blankets, bedding, baby food, baby milk, long-life food and personal hygiene items).

This effort was also supported by many volunteers helping to sort, group and pack the items, so that the aid reaches the earthquake victims in an organized and targeted manner. they were preparing packages of food, clothing, medicine and other essentials.
