The United Kingdom is working on a new proposal for Greece through which the Parthenon sculptures they could be exhibited both in London and Athensstated chairman of the British Museum, George Osborne talking about a win-win deal.

Osborne, a former finance minister, reiterated that the museum had constructive talks with the Greek government about the Sculptures:

“It’s a very difficult problem,” Osborne told BBC radio, adding: “I think there is a way to move forwardas the Parthenon Sculptures could be exhibited in both London and Athens and this will be one win-win solution for Greece and for us” he characteristically said.

When asked if that meant borrowing, he said: We are talking to the Greek government about itfor a new arrangement and what I didn’t want to do is to force the Greeks to accept things that they consider impossible and equally they cannot impose things on us that we would consider impossible”.

Osborne, however, ruled out a scenario in which the Sculptures could be permanently handed over to Greece, saying that a change in British law would be needed.

If we wanted to send all the Sculptures backthen that would require an act of parliament and that would be beyond my power.”stated and explained:

“What the museum can do is try to form a new relationship with Greece. I am quite optimistic” concluded.
