Yesterday, the meat market in Patras started with two aspects, due to Tsiknopemptis, as the weather conditions on the one hand and the release from health restrictions that applied in previous years, on the other hand, brought rearrangements.

His winners custom were the manufacturing and trading companies, which had the ability to supply the market, with incredible quantities, of pork or chicken skewers.

Their estimates even speak for selling 1 million units, in the last few days in the local market, with the main customers being restaurants, cafes, but also customers who organized open-air parties throughout the city. The number is not excessive, considering that Patras has a population of around 300,000 inhabitants, together with the surroundings and if the consumption is calculated with 3 pieces per personthen the sales of skewers is close to this number.

A person in the meat market reported to “P” that he alone supplied 6 shops in Patras with 30,000 skewers yesterday!

The souvlaki was the “king” of yesterday, the president of Patras butchers Panagiotis Zygouras told “P”, who agreed that the figure of 1 million souvlaki is not an exaggeration.

“NEIGHBORHOOD BUTCHERS ARE NOT SATISFIED”

According to Mr. Zygoura, the turnover in the other types of meat was reduced to 50% compared to last year’s Friday, where people celebrated a lot at home, due to the pandemic, and thus had rushed to make the relevant supplies.

He noted that the butchers in the neighborhood are not satisfied with the sales, except for those related to skewers. People seem to have come out of their houses, flooded the center and districts, so the market was in dire need of only skewers, yesterday, all day. This year, the image of “liberation” in the center of Patras and especially on the pedestrian street of Riga Feraios, was reminiscent of Carnival, with the cafes full of people and the outdoor grills creating the characteristic cloud of the egret!
